Moxibustion
Moxibustion involves the burning of traditional herbs, usually Chinese mugwort, over specific acupuncture points or areas of the body. It allows for greater stimulation and imparts a warming quality to the treatment.
There are various methods of applying moxibustion, such as the loose herb molded into small cones and placed directly on an acupuncture point, cigar-type sticks known as moxa sticks to wave over certain areas of the body, or even a wooden box containing the loose herb to be placed over larger areas such as the back or abdomen.
Moxibustion is a soothing treatment and is effective for treating ailments such as low back pain, menstrual cramps, certain digestive disorders, and more. It also increases circulation and warms the meridians.
